This series is teeming with meaning but almost always visual odes of Love. The central figure - usually a woman - represents the strong female influences throughout my life, most notably my mom Ann. I’ll often incorporate a wing, a nod to the beloved ancient sculpted work of Nike, in the Louvre, in Paris. My painting the figures black echos my admiration of tribal artwork, most notably from Africa, Polynesia and Papua New Guinea. The cage form which acts as the foundation of the figurative element signifies ‘creativity’ as the dress-form or Judy is the base from which fashion designers often find their muse and inspiration for their work. The birds, usually in flight, represents the one super-human ability I wish I had - to fly - but also the soaring of creativity when I’m given the freedom to paint what I wish.
