CHAIR SERIES
I have been painting this same chair for almost 15 years as a tribute to my parents after taking it with me when I moved out. I love it's form and architecture and always find some new detail I didn't see before. And like a "supporting" chair, my parents have been instrumental in (emotionally) "supporting" me through these years as an artist - so thank you Ann and Bill!
When I first premiered this "interpretation" of the chair at the 2004 Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition, with a more graphic form and bolder colour scheme, I did not expect the interest this series would continue to have years later.
I've lately been painting other kinds of chairs and sometimes add props and other elements to keep this
series fresh for me.
And no, the "real" chair isn't for sale - I'll need it for display in my retrospective at the MET! |
